- Colossians 3:9: Paul further emphasizes the need for honesty, saying, “Do not lie to each other since you have taken off your old self with its practices.”
Believers are encouraged to live according to the new life they have in Christ, which includes truthfulness.
- Proverbs 20:20: This verse specifically addresses lying to parents, stating, “If someone curses their father or mother, their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.”
While it mentions cursing parents, the principle can be extended to include lying to them. The Bible emphasizes honoring and respecting parents, which includes being truthful in our dealings with them.
- John 8:44: You are of your father the devil and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
The above passage states that the devil has been the father of lies from the earliest days of the human race. Because he lacked all truth, lying is Satan’s chief tool against mankind.

Lying to parents whether it is big or small is considered a violation of God’s commandments and undermines the trust and respect that should exist in the parent-child relationship.

Is it A Sin To Lie To Your Parents
